Blog 10

I chose Hollister to visit. My existing opinion was that it is over priced, too trendy, dark, and completely in the wrong region (Weren't in illinois, shouldn't a shop like that be on a beach somewhere?) The goods on display are all Hollister brand clothing, cologne, and beach-like decorations. Their is also a live video of a beach playing at all times. i guess that is supposed to help you get in the mood to buy surfer clothes. It is also way to dark in there. its hard to tell what color anything is, or if i'd like it after seeing it in real light. i have been to this store and purchased items before and even after my revisit, i still have the same existing feelings about the store. i still would not reccomend buying from their and will most likely never buy there ever again.

Blog Assignment 8 - Persuaders

"The Persuaders" program explores the idea that Americans are seeking and finding a sort of identity in buying/joining a brand. What is this about?

An example of this would be when barriers are created that separate technology and the personal touch of products which many consumers long for. Many consumers feel separated by a technology barrier because of all the various ways to communicate informally. By creating a commercial that shows impractical family values, you may attract several people who long for those same values being presented.

What are the common elements in the persuasion/selling strategies of advertising and marketing?

Common elements would be to focus ads on a specific group of people. You can see this in several instances in the real world. As we learned before, the most unrepresented group of people are women over 40. In the video, Song targets this group with focusing their entire product on them. Another instance would be the iPod commercials. These commercials show you how you can belong to a certain group. They use cult like strategies to create these type of commercials.

Where are we headed? What are your thoughts on how far the techniques of persuasion might go?

I feel that we are headed in a totally new and awesome direction. Our technology is more advanced than ever which can create new ways of targeting only the audiences intended. This may cause us to save more money by not wasting our ad dollars in unneeded places. I feel that these ad techniques will go on and change constantly to adjust to a changing society. Every year their will be a new trend or style and each ad will have to adjust to keep the product alive.

Blog Assignment 5 - Group Projects

I attended the class "pass out" out in front of Lawson. Following that I watched Group D's mock tailgate.

Both were definitely effective. The mock pass out was probably more effective because of the number of people involved. However, Group D also did an effective presentation when considering their smaller numbers involved.

I think the mock pass out could have been better if their was a bull horn involved to gather more peoples attention. I feel as if Group D's could have been better if they were more concentrated on putting their message of being responsible out there. I feel that they concentrated more on the mock party scene than anything else.

I do feel that these type of activities will create more awareness about the dangers of binge drinking. All week, whether looking for it or not, I saw RAW posters and they all caught my eye and made me want to learn more. I feel that overall this campaign was a great success and that it should be a annual event.

Blog Assignment 2 - Fav Commercial Review

Why is this your favorite ad? What catches your attention?

- I picked this ad because it is simple, funny, and clearly represents the company responsible for it. It doesn't go over the top with graphics and it leaves the message in your head several hours later. All in all, it is a perfect ad for hotels.com.

Has this ad made you want to buy and use this product?

- I guess I can't really buy this product, but when searching for a good hotel and its information, Hotels.com will definitely come to mind first.

Is this an effective ad? Why or why not?

- I would definitely characterize this as an effective ad. It is perfect because it is short and simple enough to the point that you do not get lost in its message . Its humor leaves a lasting impression on your mind and it is extremely hard to forget the company responsible for it.
